Info. Hopped in the car and decided to go to Red Wing. For no other reason than I liked the sound of the name. I enjoy getting the "flavor" of these Minnesota communities.

Park. I came across this park while driving around. I like the orderly, manicured feel to this area. It reminds me of the authoritarian quality that suburbs have. Stay on the path! I like the image, but I think I'll have to visit again this summer to get more green. |

River. Just down the road a spell, there's some boat launches. At this point I'm just wandering around. I'm thinking this image could stand to use a little more color and a better angle of the sun. All the while I'm enjoying the fact that there is no one else around and I'm 2 blocks away from the "downtown" area. |

Barn's Bluff. I spoke with Terri while while I was down here. She mentioned that she enjoyed the scenic vistas from the top of the bluffs in Red Wing. I found the entrance to the city park of Barn's Bluff. After scrambling up to the base of the bluff, I found a path that looked like it would lead to the top. Halfway climbing up this increasingly narrow path, I began to wonder; "what was my sister doing up here?" then I said to myself; "what am I doing up here?!". I was reminded of dreams I've had, the kind where you find yourself in surreal places and situations and you don't know why...Needless to say, I turned around. It turns out I was operating without all the facts. There's another bluff, Memorial park that has a convenient roadway to the top. Alas, this was closed. Boo hoo. Back to the bluff at hand. After brushing off the "what are you doing here" stares from the mountain climbers working the side of the bluff, I was able to get a couple of shots. Without the foliage on the trees, there's some good views from up here that will definitely be different come summer. |
